It is widely accepted by experts that SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is about 20% on-page optimization and 80% off-page optimization. Off-page optimization refers to the strategy of building links from other sites back to your website.
What does that really mean?
Well, essentially it means that Google judges your site, less by what’s actually on the page, and more by what sites are linking to you. It is those inbound links that are so important. Unique keyword focused content on your page is important, but technical ‘tweaks’ on YOUR site will not make a huge much difference when it comes to ranking in search engines. So, inbound links are an important part of the equation.
There are ways to get thousands of inbound links, literally overnight. Google will likely discount these or even worse, penalize your site if it thinks you are trying to ‘trick’ the algorithm. Best to play it safe and do it all nice and legal.
My other tip is to make certain that you vary the anchor text or wording associated with your inbound links. You don’t want every one named “TARGET KEYWORD” and nothing else. It’s not natural, and Google will see it as such. So, with those two pearls of wisdom firmly planted away, here are my best SEO Secrets of gaining inbound links, together with your various keyword targeted links:
1) Article Directories
Write articles and submit to as many primary article directories as possible. From the resource box, you can have two or three keyword links. Other websites will go on to publish these articles, and before you know it, you will have links coming from all over the net, from, importantly, theme related websites.
Blog and blog often. In your blog articles, insert hyper-linked keywords to your target page. Then publish an RSS feed and make sure to publish that in as many areas as you can find. Other blogs will pick up your RSS feed and publish it on their sites.
Forum Posting – Don’t underestimate the power of this one. You can find a fantastic return on investment, especially if you post in relevant and on topic forums. If you spice up your forum signature with an enticing offer, then not only will you gain inbound links, you will also score quite a few interested visitors.
4) Directory Submission
Directory Submissions – To be honest, I wouldn’t spend a lot of time on this, but it’s still a fairly quick method to get a few links out there. I don’t think Google places a huge significance on directory links and I certainly wouldn’t pay to get a list, unless I had been in a tight market and I understood that the directory could provide traffic and not just the link.
5) Socila Bookmarking
Social Bookmarking – Yes I know it’s a lot of work, but Google likes social bookmarking websites. If Google likes them, so do we. There are many websites to post your link, including Twitter, Pinterest, StumbleUpon, Dribble, Digg and Scoop.it, If you wish to get serious, then I recommend you use some automated bookmarking option. Check out OnlyWire to help you save time by automating your bookmarking efforts.
6) Video Marketing
Create a video, post it to YouTube and as many video directories as possible. Do not forget to add a hyperlink to your site in the description and the movie itself, preferably during. Google loves video, that’s why you often see YouTube videos in the top of searches. And because of that video marketing has become a very popular way to generate inbound links.
So, there you have it. There are many different ways to get inbound links, but these 6 are my favorites, and if you follow the steps correctly, you will surely find great results. Other good methods include software creation and affiliate marketing, i.e., affiliates linking to you. You can also outsource many of these tasks but as always, do your homework by researching the tools and check testimonials before you make any purchases.
